Saturday June 18th - Sight seeing in Budapest

Phillip got to go sight seeing with us on Saturday so we set out to do Castle Hill, Parliament and HOPEFULLY Gellert Hill before our dinner cruise. Of course not all of those things happened. :) We started with a quick stop at St. Stephen's Basilica. It's a beautiful church built in honor of....wait for it.....St. Stephen! The dude is ALL over Budapest. They love him. It's 96 meters high, same as Parliament. I couldn't understand the tour guide at Parliament, but I think she said 896 is the year the Magyar's settled in Budapest so 96 is a common number. (more on that later)

Travel Buddies. :)

Then we walked across the Danube on the Chain Bridge to Castle Hill, it's on the Buda side. These pictures were taken as we walked across the bridge. That's the Parliament Building.

Matthias Church...

Buda Castle grounds. Poor Levi had to bounce around on quite a few cobblestone streets while we were gone!

Oh wait! Who is that statue of? I bet you'll never guess.....St. Istvan!!! (That's how the Hungarians say Stephen) This is at Fisherman's Bastion.

Amazing roof on Matthias Church. Evidently it's closed a lot for weddings, which of course was the case this day. :(

These are water fountains that you see all over the city! Pretty....but not sure I would drink out of them. :)

The church again...

The view from Fisherman's Bastion was AMAZING!! Holly got a really great picture of the 2 of us with Parliament in the background but I'll have to add that later!

Fisherman's Bastion

Water Break!

The Funicular that takes you up to Castle Hill, if you take the lazy way and don't walk. *Don't judge...we walked a lot this trip!* It was originally built in 1870 but was destroyed in WWII (like a lot of the city) and rebuilt in the 80's.

A very pretty fountain on our way to lunch at Iguana.

After lunch we attempted to go on a Parliament tour. They were sold out of tickets and would not let us purchase them for another day. "Typical Hungarian" Holly says. :)This picture is just for Leslie and Shelly! These were giant spiders and there were LOTS of them over where we had to pick up our tickets for the river cruise. I thought to myself "those two would miss out on this amazing experience over those darn spiders." So I snapped a pic for you! YOU'RE WELCOME!

Buda Castle...this city is BREATH TAKING all lit up at night!Me and my sweet baby on the boat! He wasn't so sweet. It doesn't get dark until about 9:30 or 10pm in Budapest (and the sun comes up at like 4:30-5am!) so this was WAY past his bed time and we had a very long day of walking. He was ready to go to night night! Our amazing hosts....the Bowman Fam!

Buda Castle, Matthias Church and Chain Bridge. (I'm kinda proud of this picture!)And this one...Holly taught me how to adjust the shutter speed on my camera to get great night shots and cathedral shots! This is Chain Bridge. And Parliament...

Whew... long post. Great day in Budapest!
